About the Role
SC Engineers is seeking a mid-level Mechanical Engineer to join our MEP design team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for HVAC system design on commercial, federal, and transportation projects across the northeast region. This is a hands-on design role – the candidate is expected to run calculations, produce drawings, coordinate with other disciplines, and support projects through construction administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Design HVAC systems including VAV, AHU, fan coil, chilled water, VRF, and exhaust systems for mid-scale building projects
- Run heating and cooling load calculations using HAP, TRACE, or equivalent
- Produce coordinated Revit MEP drawing packages through construction documents
- Coordinate with architectural, electrical, and plumbing disciplines to resolve conflicts and meet project milestones
- Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs during construction administration
- Support NYC DOB filing and respond to code objections
- Apply NYC Mechanical Code, IMC, and ASHRAE 62.1/90.1 to real project conditions
- Prepares engineering proposals under the direction of a senior engineer or senior designer for projects
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelors in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering
- 3–7 years of HVAC design experience at an MEP consulting firm
- EIT required
- Proficiency in Revit MEP and/or AutoCAD MEP
- Working knowledge of NYC Mechanical Code, IMC, and ASHRAE standards
- Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate and justify engineering design decisions.
Preferred:
- PE license in NY
- NYC DOB filing experience
- Exposure to transit facilities, tunnel ventilation, or institutional HVAC
- Familiarity with NYC Local Law 97 or LEED documentation
