SENIOR INSPECTOR (CIVIL)

The ideal candidate as a senior inspector will be extremely observant and attentive to detail. The prime responsibilities of a Senior Inspector (Civil) include ensuring compliance with all contract documents, enforcing regulations that pertain to the construction, observing work in progress to assure conformance with requirements, and acceptable workmanship. Construction inspections may include foundations, concrete, steel, masonry, wood construction, framing, plastering and a large variety of other complex transportation and building construction activities. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures contractors compliance with Contract Documents.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to all construction efforts to ensure that all projects are executed in accordance with the contract, design, budget, and schedule.
  • Analyzes contractors site safety, operational performance, and minimizes risk.
  • Reviews design, safety, quality plans and all construction phase submittals associated with the Project. 
  • Manages and mentors a team of junior inspectors.
  • Develops daily, weekly, monthly reports to the project manager on the status of the project, including any issues that occurred.
  • Attends progress meetings and reports on project status.
  • Works with Project Manager to review requests for change from the field and, if appropriate, prepares a potential change notice with appropriate justification for submission to PM.
  • Prepares and reviews Safety Site Specific Work Plan (SSSWP) to ensure safety of the job
  • Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the corporation’s safety vision and goals.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5-10 years relevant work experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior inspector of construction project
  • Must have the ability to coordinate efforts with other technical disciplines and have knowledge of reading contract plans and review construction schedules.
  • Possess strategic and tactical skills required for planning and executing complex project work. 
  • Strong leadership required, encompassing effective communication, motivation, and team building/team performance skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in using PC-based word processing and spreadsheet (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) sufficient to prepare daily reports.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS degree in engineering, construction management or related field
  • 7+ years relevant work experience preferred.
  • Licensed as professional engineer or architect
  • Certifications by the International Code Council (ICC/ICBO), e.g. Building Inspector, Plumbing Code, Electrical Code, Mechanical Code, Plans Review.  
  • Practitioner experience with construction and construction management.
  • Certified Construction Management (CCM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Demonstrated construction experience on bridges, highways, and/or railroad environments.
