19 Elevator & 6 Escalator Replacements at Sutphin Blvd-Archer Avenue-JFK Airport and West 4th Street Stations
The project supports MTA NYCT’s efforts to modernize vertical transportation infrastructure by replacing 19 elevators across 11 stations and 6 escalators at 2 stations under two separate construction packages in Manhattan and Queens, NY. The scope includes commissioning of new equipment, reconfiguration of machine rooms, and upgrades to associated mechanical, electrical, plumbing, communications, architectural, and civil systems to ensure full ADA compliance and extend service life at key transit locations. Challenges include coordinating extensive vertical circulation and MEP upgrades in active stations with continuous passenger flow, maintaining accessibility during phased construction, and integrating new systems within older station environments. As a subconsultant, SC Engineers is providing mechanical and electrical inspections as well as oversight of utility and service construction to support successful delivery.
