CP-2 Excavation and Below Grade Construction of the OH-007 Gowanus Combined Sewer Overflow Abatement Facility
The project is the second phase of constructing a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) facility at the Gowanus Canal Outfall OH-007 as part of a federally mandated Superfund cleanup. The scope includes support of excavation, deep excavation and remediation of 82,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil, and construction of below-grade concrete structures for a 4-million-gallon CSO retention tank. Challenges include managing large-scale soil remediation in a densely urban and environmentally sensitive area, executing deep excavation near existing infrastructure, and coordinating with regulatory agencies under a federal settlement agreement. SCE as a subconsultant, is providing environmental and civil inspection services, along with expertise in deep excavation.
