Description:

The Sunnyside Rail Yard Expansion design has presented a critical situation pertaining to the control and indication of switches and signals controlled from Q Tower within the busiest rail yard in the country. To support the necessary modifications to the track configuration for the Sunnyside Rail Yard expansion project, the existing Model 13 lever machine installed in 1909, will be upgraded to the new microprocessor-based control system (CIH) before the retirement of the original lever machine. The project scope includes hardware and software design for replacement of the existing mechanical interlocking machine based control system for Q-interlocking, construction of Central Instrumentation House (CIH) and signal houses, air to electric track switch conversion, installation of new track circuits and heaters, coordination with in house force account labor for construction, testing & commissioning, and staged cutover.
