JOB DETAIL FOR ELECTRICAL RESIDENT ENGINEER

The Electrical Resident Engineer (RE) is responsible to lead a team of inspection staff and ensure that the construction work of a project is carried out in accordance with the contract requirements for safety, quality, schedule, and budget. The ideal candidate will have minimum 10 years of construction management experience overseeing various projects, including bridges, railroad infrastructure, or civil works. Experience with MTA, PA and Amtrak highly preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Review project related correspondence, submittals, construction documents, technical reports and establish lines of communication with key parties
  • Supervise inspection staff and perform quality assurance/control of the work.
  • Monitor progress of work against approved CPM schedule
  • Review contractor’s safety systems, procedures and monitor implementation across the project site
  • Discuss deviations from specified construction materials and procedures with Engineer-In-Charge
  • Direct, assist and monitor the performance of construction inspection and office engineering staff
  • Act as point of contact and coordinate directly with contractor and key stakeholders
  • Oversee field site activities and provide technical advice on construction methods and design
  • Regularly review and approve contract submittals and payment applications. Develop engineers estimates and schedules. Negotiate changes orders on behalf of the client
  • Conduct regular progress meetings with the contractor and appropriate personnel and report on any issues, as necessary

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of Inspection experience in bridge, highway and railroad projects, including a background in both field inspection and office engineering
  • NY Professional Engineer license
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret contract documents and construction plans and specifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be very organized and have effective problem solving, leadership and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects/deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment
  • Experience with MTA, PA and Amtrak highly preferred
