BRIDGE COATING INSPECTOR

Bridge Coatings Inspector will be responsible for the daily inspection of coatings work on bridges to ensure contractor performance follows plans and specifications, quality assurance, quality control testing activities, and documentation.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Inspects, accepts, and/or rejects work performed as detailed by specifications or applicable codes 
  • Provides field inspection on surface preparation and application of protective coatings on bridge steel and surveillance during various substrate cleaning and coating activities 
  • Knowledge of operating various substrate cleaning and coating inspection instruments and equipment 
  • Organizes and prepares field data into daily, weekly, and monthly inspection reports 
  • Prepares detailed inspection reports on conditions, progress, ambient conditions, and typical hold points such as surface preparation, dry film thickness readings, containment, etc.
  • Communicates effectively with key project partners (coating applicators, safety personnel, project managers, field quality control personnel, and QA supervisor)
  • When requested, participate in internal and client-led procedural and process safety and quality audits
  • Travel to multiple job sites as needed
  • Must be capable of working on suspended span bridge structures at high elevations.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) 
  • Bridge coating inspector must have NACE Coatings Inspector Level I certification 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience inspecting bridge coating operations 
  • Prior experience working on DOT construction projects preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of DOT specifications for Sealing of Concrete Surfaces and Structural Steel Painting 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Individuals with additional certifications including SSPC Bridge Coating Inspector (BCI), and SSPC C3 Supervisor, Competent Person Training for leading of Industrial Structures are preferred  
  • Experience with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a benefit but not required
  • Ability to read & interpret construction drawings & specifications
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of surface preparation methods and specialty coatings and coating techniques
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
