Hudson Tunnel
The Project is a major infrastructure initiative that will improve rail capacity and resiliency between New Jersey and New York by constructing a two new rail tunnels under the Hudson River and rehabilitating the existing, storm-damaged North River Tunnels. Together, these efforts will eliminate a critical bottleneck on the Northeast Corridor and support long-term service reliability for Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT. Challenges include constructing new tunnel infrastructure beneath dense urban environments, the Hudson River with a use of Tunnel Boring Machines, coordinating across multiple jurisdictions and transportation agencies, and maintaining uninterrupted service during the project tie-ins to the North East Corridor rail line. SCE, as a subconsultant to the Delivery Partner team, is providing civil engineering subject matter experts, railroad coordination, FTA/FRA reporting, cost management, and resident engineering services.
