Portal North Bridge Replacement
This project replaces the existing 111-year-old movable bridge over the Hackensack River with a high-level fixed-span tied-arch bridge, eliminating marine-related rail service interruptions. The new structure will rise more than 50 feet above the river and will be the one of the first network tied arch rail bridges in the United States. The bridge will span nearly 2.5 miles, and the bridge replacement will remove conflicts with maritime traffic and boost reliability and enable higher train speeds.
